Phillies Pitching Prospects: Carpenter and Carrasco
Lisa Winston from MLB.com writes that the Phillies have a lot to look forward to in the next few years, specifically pitching prospects Andrew Carpenter and Carlos Carrasco. Carpenter, a second-round pick in 2006, finished last season with 17 wins and a 3.20 ERA, and carries a quiver of 5 pitches: fastball touching 90, plus slider, curve, changeup, and a splitter.
Carrasco, a 21-year-old from Venezuela, has been in the Phillies system for 3 years, and was impressive in Class-A ball before getting knocked around in Double-A last year. Maturity is the Phillies’ goal for Carrasco, who boasts a mid-90s fastball and a plus changeup.
